Review of Last Woman on Earth (1960) by J R — 28 May 2009
Another decent Corman film, the title credits and the opening scene set the stage perfectly for the rest of an apocalypse story. The credits slowly pan along the painting of a womanâ??s curves, which is followed by the main characters watching a cock fight, a metaphor for the rest of the film.
The character of Ev is pure sex, setting up the conflict between the two men, a story that admittedly stumbles a bit in the middle, but recovers about half way through to become something of an Antonioni-style movie, something of an interesting departure for Corman.
