Review of Last Woman on Earth (1960) by Donald W — 14 Apr 2015
This is a cheap movie made by Roger Corman and a group of his friends. They were in Puerto Rico with a film crew and they churned out as many movies as they could before the money ran out. The first part of the movie is a tour of Puerto Rican tourist destinations including a cockfighting arena.
I don't know if cockfighting is still legal in Puerto Rico. It was outlawed in Oklahoma about 20 years ago. It may still be legal in Louisiana and New Mexico. The basis of the story is that two men and a woman go scuba diving off the coast of Puerto Rico and while they are below the surface a disaster occurs that poisons the atmosphere of the whole earth and kills everyone.
This was made during the height of the cold war and everyone thought that a world wide nuclear war would wipe out the entire human population. It's totally improbable that anything could happen that would result in only three survivors in the whole planet.
The rest of the story is how the two men get into a competition over the woman till one kills the other. The cover of the DVD shows more skin than any scene in the movie. In the movie the woman is always fully clothed and there are almost no sex scenes.
The color in the DVD copy is faded almost to the point of monochrome.
