Review of Last Tango in Paris (1972) by Frankie A — 04 Apr 2008
I never realized what a masterpiece this is. First off this proves Brando is one of the greatest actors of all time. He is funny, sadistic, powerful, weak, gentle all out of the same character. The sexual trysts are not the centre of the film although they shed light on the relationship between Brando and Scneider - as long as they mean nothing to each other, they mean everything to each other.
As soon as they open up and care for each other... it's over in a shot. It is a dark poignant film with great humor and emotional weight if you look for it.
