Review of Last Chance Harvey (2008) by Rakib M — 23 Jun 2009
A nice enough little film but nothing fantastic. It seems a pale imitation of Love Actually without many laughs.
The two principals are excellent, as you would expect but there isn't really much for the rest of the cast to do.
The one original part of the film is the excellent portrayal of how groups can be inadvertently cruel to an "outsider" by simply being nice to each other.
Harvey even does this to Kate at one point when he breaks into a group but leaves her behind.
Other than this the film is entirely predictable, if not unpleasant. It could have been improved by some better editing (too much set up) and getting rid of the excruciatingly banal background music.
