Review of Last Chance Harvey (2008) by Kenneth D — 20 Jul 2009
A good romantic comedy, with heartwarming characters and bittersweet moments. Academy Award winner Dustin Hoffman plays Harvey Shine, a down-on-his-luck commercial jingle writer, traveling to London to see his daughter down the aisle.
Meanwhile, airport statistic collector Kate suffers from a lack of a true relationship with anyone besides her mother. After being hit with a heart-breaking piece of information from his daughter during her rehearsal dinner, Harvey attends her wedding, only to leave before the reception.
While at the airport, Harvey's position as a jingle writer all but dies over the phone when his manager notifies him that he is being dropped. Wallowing in self pity at the airport bar, Harvey strikes up a conversation with Kate while on her lunch break.
Intrigued by one another and finding an escape in their time together, Harvey and Kate turn a depressing Sunday afternoon into one of the most enjoyable times of their lives.
