Review of Lars and the Real Girl (2007) by Jacob S — 26 Sep 2011
This was a very bizarre movie, a guy pretending that a sex doll he bought is his girlfriend? I know that sounds bizarre and it is, but as the movie went on I began to accept it and go with it just like the community in his town.
Though I must say, this would probably never happen in real life, a community would not go along with something like this especially in today's society. This could have been a disaster but it wasn't, in fact it was compelling.
Plus also the fact that the acting was great, especially from Gosling who did a wonderful job. The great script too helped this movie out a lot and gave it a nice boost. The score was nice, it set a nice tone throughout the movie.
The directing was nice, it was nicely shot. This movie is bizarre especially in the beginning, and the whole community going along with it is kind of unrealistic. However, this is a compelling movie with great acting particularly from Gosling and a great script, hopefully by the end you're use to the silly premise like I was.
3.5/4 stars.
