Review of Lars and the Real Girl (2007) by Anthony I — 01 Apr 2015
A moving picture? If this is what's moving to people, I feel sorry for all of you. This is a cornball movie. Unrealistic and dull. This was nominated for an Oscar?!? I didn't believe any of it.
How could a person with such a debilitating social disorder suddenly come out of his shell for a plastic doll? It makes no sense. The whole town going along with it is just cringe inducing. Talk about a desperate, unoriginal attempt at making a feel-good movie.
The only way this film would've worked for me is if it existed in a strange universe, where nobody notices that Bianca wasn't real. I'll say one potential positive.. Ryan Gosling's performance.
I like him as an actor. He always gives it his all, and he's to credit for making this thing.. at least tolerable in certain scenes. It's everything else that I had a problem with.
