Review of Lars and the Real Girl (2007) by Jesse K — 09 Jun 2015
Good idea that wears thin very quickly.
The central plot - guy goes nuts, imagines internet-order doll is his girlfriend, whole town plays along to humour him - was fine initially. However it got overdone, wore thin fairly quickly and ultimately overstayed its welcome by a long period.
I kept hoping he would snap out of his malaise or someone would set him right in no uncertain terms, but it never happened.
It's as if the writer and director ran out of ideas within a few scenes.
By the end I was more irritated than entertained.
Ryan Gosling gives a reasonably good performance in the lead role. Solid supporting performances.
