Review of Larry Crowne (2011) by Mloy X — 13 Feb 2013
Talia (MBatha-Raw): Hey - we all got free tattoos. I wanted something in Japanese so check this out.
That one says courage, that one says spirit. Courageous spirit.
Larry Crowne (Hanks): That's Chinese, and it says soy sauce.
This was cute and had a generally positive message, the token when-you-get-lemons-make-lemonade cliche, but atleast it's uplifting which is good. Tom Hanks is his usual charismatic, loveable self. Julia Robert was meh, did really feel her performance; but the person to really watch in this film was the cute gal who played Talia Francesco (Gugu Mbatha-Raw), she gave an outstanding performance. She was so endearing and bubbly and had more chemistry with Hanks than Roberts did. It would have been more interesting if her character Talia ended up with Larry Crowne. Overall, it was just alright, nothing really too special about this film, it's neither Hanks' nor Robert's best film, not worth it so see it for their performances but Mbatha-Raw's Talia made it easier to stick around for the rest of the film.
