Review of L'Argent (1983) by Samuel S — 26 Mar 2007
Based on the terrific novel by Tolstoy 'The Counterfeit Coupon', Bresson reveals a haunting film of how innocent pranks can unconsciously destroy the lives of others.
Bresson's concluding film that only conceived a a little over ten films in a 40 year period. One of the most consistent directors in terms of character and style. Bresson's unique concentration on detail and subjective interpretation is beautiful. The use monotonous facial inexpressions gives the viewer an opportunity to grasp and feel more important aspects of the film: the plot and ideology.
