Boy, this film's just fulla racists, isn't it? I'm not sure the director's efforts worked on me; I was totally behind Sam Jackson's character for 90% of the movie. Patrick Wilson just came across as an asshole, as did Jackson's daughter.
The subplot with the forest fires goes nowhere and just becomes distracting by the movie's end.
