Review of Lakeview Terrace (2008) by Stephanus W — 01 Sep 2010
This movie might as well have been called 'Lakeview Terror'! As Samuel L. Jackson's character Abel is just that, a neighborhood terror. Having a strong dislike to white guys dating black women, Abel, a local police officer gives the new neighbors Chris (Patrick Wilson) and his wife Lisa a real tough time.
He does everything in his power to force them to move from the neighborhood such as keeping his flood lights on at night which keep the new neighbors awake all night long. They tolerate it for awhile, but Abel keeps pushing which eventually turns their neighborly acceptance into an unwelcoming threat! Very powerful acting summoned by Jackson.
He involves much more anger and deliberate aggression than many of his well renowned roles. It's kind of odd his name being Abel in this movie as Samuel L. Jackson's son's name in Menace 2 Society is Kane.
All in all it is a good movie about rivalry and ethic morals. does being a key member of the police force give Abel the right to muscle his neighbors around the way he does? Is he too over protective of a father to his children? All of these questions are asked of the viewer as the movie progresses.
The movie is full of controversial view points and racist outlooks. Overall it was a very enjoyable watch and definitely an intimidating role for Samuel L. Jackson. A bit predictable, but overall enjoyable 3.
0 starz.
