Review of Lakeview Terrace (2008) by Paul R — 03 Feb 2013
Samuel L Jackson excels as the suburban psychopath. A cop with strict rules, questionable morals and personal beliefs. Lakeview Terrace is a decent thriller about a cops personal dislike of his new neighbours and how he goes about his devotion to making their settling in as difficult as possible.
Unfortunately the one thing this film lacks is subtlety and it wears its heart on its sleeve a little to obviously. The racism angle, although fundamentally important to the story needed to be a little more subtle and its garishness can make the first hour an uncomfortable watch in parts.
But for all its failings it still comes in as a decent thriller driven by Samuel L Jacksons wild eyed lead performance.
