Review of Lakeview Terrace (2008) by Anthony A — 22 Jan 2014
Samuel L. Jackson plays an LAPD officer who lives way above pay grade in a super rich community. He's uber strict and hates interracial couples. Guess who moves into the house next door? You guessed it, an interracial couple.
The movie boils down to people acting completely outrageous and it makes an attempt to discuss racial situations which goes absolutely nowhere because they'd rather begin the next scene where someone acts completely outrageous and throws a huge fit.
It's like watching a Monty Python movie but instead of people intentionally telling jokes and riffing on society you have an almost 2 hour film where no one was in on the joke but thought they were being really, really topical because.
..you know..they're black...he's white. If you love Samuel L. Jackson--and I do--because the man is awesome--then this is good for one spin but if you don't then don't regret it: you're not missing much.
