Review of Lake of Fire (2006) by Sarah A — 11 Dec 2007
Although I'm definitely glad I saw it, I was really disappointed. I was fortunate enough to watch this with some truly insightful women from a local reproductive health care clinic (Emma Goldman) who voiced a lot of legitimate concerns about the film.
I didn't feel this was a balanced look at abortion, though it certainly did try to explore many different perspectives of the procedure. The most agitating thing about the film is that, much as it occurs within the real world arena of abortion, the individual woman is completley lost in this film.
They interview zealots, theorists, outreach program directors on both sides, and dozens of others but only a handful of women who have had abortions themselves and clinic staff who could relate their own experiences.
