Review of Lake of Fire (2006) by Raul B — 15 Dec 2007
A remarkable documentary that blows up the gray areas of the abortion debate in gorgeous black and white--has Oscar written all over it. The choice of using no color levels out both sides visually, and also makes the blood spilled in both the clinic killings and the abortions more bearable to watch, making it easier to focus on the arguments rather than on our discomfort at the sight of blood.
Without being preachy in any way, the film is bound to challenge your stance regardless of what side of the argument you're on: seeing pro-lifers holding up signs, reciting bible verses, preaching with solid conviction about what women should and shouldn't do with their bodies, and seeing the aftermath of an abortion clinic killing at their hands, will make you realize the insanity of these fundamentalists; yet, seeing a woman go through the actual abortion procedure and seeing the embryo's body parts up close in a pool of blood is bound to make your stomach turn and make you think of abortions as something that shouldn't be taken lightly either.
