Review of Lake Mungo (2009) by Jen H — 27 Dec 2014
It is the lamentations of a family coming to terms with loss. The mock-documentary format saves the film from its over-familiar premise. Creepy in parts, however, it just doesn't go anywhere.
The climax is underwhelming albeit a few creepy final images. I really feel the mid-movie reveal lost a lot of the traction and tension that had been building up. Consequently, the climax had less punch than it should have because there was minimal groundwork of about 30 minutes put in.
Through and through, the entire movie is undeniably stylish and unique.
