Review of Lady Vengeance (2005) by Joseph F — 08 Dec 2009
Beautiful and disturbing. The ultimate vengeance fantasy.
I remember from my childhood having discussions about what we would do to various criminals, the corporal punishments we would mete out in our wise judgements. Feed cannibals to animals, rape rapists, torture torturers, eye for an eye, etc. But as you grow older you have to question whether you go too far. Do you become what it is that you are trying to destroy? Why would it suddenly become OK to kill someone just because that person has killed someone else. Do we not earn the same wage for the same work. Maybe, in a fair world. But that is not the world we have, the cycle of reciprocation would be endless.
However, I did love this movie. Gorgeous cinematography, individual frames become gallery worthy. The editing is quirky and you can get lost in the fanciful time stream, but one bit of gruesomeness acts as a guide between past and present. Additionally, there is a tattoo that literally had me do a double-take.
