Review of Lady Vengeance (2005) by Jak-Luke S — 23 Jul 2017
Park Chan-Wook plays with his audience like he's slowly pulling the legs of an insect. Everyone thinks it's nasty and horrifying but can't help but watch. He pulls a leg off one by one watching this insect squirm and try run.
He has ripped apart every leg and the insect just sits, waiting for inevitable strike that will put it out of its misery, yet Wook-Park doesn't do anything. He just sits, quietly and makes his audience look at the insect struggle for life, it's only when his audience gets closer he smashes his hand down upon the insect obliterating it, and he walks out the room, laughing until he's distant.
His audience can't move, they look at the remains, stand and stare. Tears in their eyes, jaws dropped.
