Review of Lady Macbeth (2016) by Eric L — 28 Nov 2017
"Lady MacBeth" is unlike most films in recent memory. It's dark setting and bold cinematography make for a brooding, moody exhibition. Florence Pugh is on full display in one of the more disturbing turns that is likely to boost the newcomer to a full-throttle career on the big screen.
She dominates every moment and sets an intentional tone for each frame. The story, while lacking in much dialogue, centers more on ambiance and plot. Overall, "Lady Macbeth" offers a deeply unsettling portrait of betrayal, sociopathy, and deviance from the first frame to the last.
