Review of Lady Macbeth (2016) by Ash F — 05 Aug 2017
Oh my!
Pugh' performance as the central female character, her silent and seemingly this unintentional malevolence is to watch for. If you can't have your way, let us make way- be it murder, mayhem, or utter indifference to the havoc you are wrecking on other souls- selfishness is such a prelude to genuine psychopathy, we tend to ignore it in real life. It is a lesson to watch it here. The cinematography is brilliant in its isolation, and certain images are so reminiscent of Vermeer paintings, it is amazing. And I liked the silence in the movie, not underlined by musical score. Most of the time, I feel manipulated by melodramatic symphonatic scores. I am glad none of that was present here. The pacing had some moments of awkwardness but it also felt as if it was the aim.
Somewhat disturbing but great cinema.
