Review of Lady in White (1988) by Michael C — 16 Aug 2005
Lady in White is one of those movies that scared me when I was little, and I still found to be a great film. But for some reason or another, it doesn?t seem to hold up the same today as it did back then. That isn?t to say that this film is bad, but not as good as many would remember it to be.
My biggest problem is how much this film seems drawn out. And not all the drawn out scenes really tie in together in the end. Like how there is all this sleuthing being done to figure out the ones responsible for this little girls death, but it all just is found out because of some damn tune.
There are some really good performances, especially by a young Lukas Haas. Man, where did he go? And the movie is funny and shocking when it needs to be. Some things do fall in place, but I swear this film could have been a lot shorter than it is.
I think most people today who remember this movie as being great might be surprised at how it doesn?t really work as well all these years later. It is worth a re-watching, but I?m not sure if it is worth owning. While the DVD release of this seems to be in limbo again, don?t hold your breath over seeing a really good horror film. Just sit patiently for a decent ghost story flick. .
