Review of Lady in the Water (2006) by Alex M — 13 Mar 2010
Watched this yesterday and I really really tried to watch it and give it a chance. but it was just so overpretentious, and word after word was stumbling after another, it just became impossible to watch.
I hate it when filmmakers try to force something upon the audience, believe this and that and you'll enjoy this. I felt like m night was shoving his stupid story and ideas down my throat, in order to understand the rest of the movie.
it was shot well, and I guess paul giamatti did a good job, but he looked like an absolute fool running around and playing FAIRY TALES with the stupid characters. the story just seemed so pointless. and the solution is like the easiest thing ever to get said character back "home" yet we have these stupid drawn out moments with characters that have some personal conflict that keeps them from moving the story along.
ugh. and m night's pretentious "look at me, im the guy with the deep philosophical answer" character is just unbearable. he's played the same character in every movie he's done. bad bad bad.
theres really no redeeming factor in watching this movie. go read a REAL fairytale or an actual good movie.
