Review of Lady in the Water (2006) by Cesare Sebastiano D — 07 Mar 2010
How do you call a fairytale where the characters are self-aware and use elements of folklore to solve the riddles? An explicit meta-fairytale? Add to this that the characters are memorable, the score is evocative albeit a bit repetitive, the "packaging" is beautiful and the atmosphere permeating the film really thin and magical.
The story drags a little mid-way, though, with maybe one turn too much. This, and the non-canonical abrupt ending take away half a point from this still beautiful film.
