Review of Lady in the Water (2006) by Max H — 31 Jul 2010
A very interesting picture to say the least, one that proves there is a place for defined cliche roles. M. Night tried to amaze us with the revelation that the cliche roles defied their definitions, but unfortunately the end result was nothing but an arbitrary mess. If the 'guardian' isn't going to fulfill the role we have come to expect the 'guardian' to fulfill, why call him a guardian at all?
Nevertheless, this is still a fun family friendly PG13 movie. It fulfills it's role as a companion piece to the book, but unfortunately it therefore seems to depend too much upon the support of the well told children's book, which M. Night wrote simultaneously with the making of the movie.
