Review of Lady Bird (2017) by Felipe P — 27 Jan 2018
Absolutely hated this mumble core film. Ronan, as always, was strong as an actor, though I found her character to be rather grating. The supporting characters, such as her high school friends, seemed like B-movie actors - stilted, lacking depth, and thoroughly unconvincing.
At times "Lady Bird" was aimless, at others contrived and cliche. The angst-ridden teen struggling to find identity has been done ad naseum and some to a much better comedic or dramatic effect (take "Rebel without a Cause," "Juno," "Breakfast Club," "Heathers," "Mean Girls" or "To Sir with Love").
I'd sum this film up as one very long snooze fest. I've had more fun at the dentist.
