Review of Lady Bird (2017) by Maria Magdalena B — 29 Jan 2018
"Lady Bird" is simply the mirror of real life. I couldn't help but wonder: what role is more difficult to act: the real life part or the fantasy? I think both and by that I mean Saoirse Ronan and Sally Hawkins. Both played their part outstandingly yet there is only one Oscar to get. "Lady Bird" is so refreshing, so "fighting tears" true, so "yes, that's me and my family" true. A mother struggling to hold on to a life in Sacramento which isn't easy. Laurie Metcalf deserves all the accolades for her performance. I first saw her in "Desperate housewives", then in "Bing Bang theory", a funny funny sweet southern talker!! I saw it now in "Lady Bird" as a responsible MOM, yet funny serious, a great combination of talent and sense of life and I was thinking: "what an outstanding woman!".
Saoirse is not a surprise: every role she had to act was played perfectly since she was 9. The story of "lady Bird" really goes straight to the heart and I hope that also straight to the Oscar 2018.
