Review of Lady and the Tramp (1955) by Bradley J — 25 Feb 2012
Okay, so being a 19-year-old boy, a movie titled "Lady and the Tramp" seems an odd choice to watch on a Saturday night. But it being released on BluRay recently, and knowing that I haven't seen the whole movie since, if ever, I was very little, I thought I'd take advantage of my Mom's old VHS collection and give it a viewing.
Sure enough, I enjoyed it quite a bit. I had never known about the question posed by the film regarding whether a family will continue to care for you even when a new child is born; I can actually relate to Lady's dilemma of feeling like an outsider when the newborn is crowded around and adored (I am trying to snap out of that mindset for good, though). I didn't think they even did that to certain dogs at the pound, I don't see how they could really be that cruel (if you've seen the film, you know what I'm talking about).
The ending seemed maybe just a little fantastic, and making Aunt Sarah's (gosh, she was mean) terrible cats Chinese might've made more sense in 1955, here it just seems odd. But that's just serious nitpicking.
4/5 stars.
