Review of Lady and the Tramp (1955) by Doctor P — 11 Jul 2011
4th of the Silver Age.
This was the first animated film to be in Cinemascope, and the Disney artists took full advantage of it. The animation is great and used extremely well for it's scenes and the wide screen.
The music here is memorable, something that should be of no surprise considering the film features some of the most remembered musical sequences in not only Disney history, but in film history in general.
The story, is pretty good, the film flows nicely. Though at times "Lady and The Tramp" feels a bit dull during the more romantic scenes between Lady and the Tramp, it's not bad but those moments never entertain as much as the other scenes like the Siamese Cats or the Rat scenes. Still though it's good to note that this was the first Disney feature that was not based on a source material.
The characters are all fun but aside from a few obvious characters, they're not as memorable as some of the other studio's notable features.
It's aged well considering the hatred it had when first released, proof that not all films will be appreciated when first released but can be in the future.
Next up: A message from Walt Disney "Don't make it like Snow White".
