Review of Ladder 49 (2004) by Seth H — 18 Jul 2008
Ok lets first start off with everyone who bad mouths the movie. I've been in fire service for 7 years and I can tell you a thing or two. I hear everyone saying the screwing around and the drinking undermine firefighters and put them in a sterotype.
Listen most firefighters do drink and screw around on the job and I must tell everyone the reason. the days are hard and long jokes and messing around get you through the day with a smile and the drinking helps cope with alot of stuff that we go through.
Remember you never know what it's like til your in our boots. Remember you call us when there is something you can't handle. We see more tragedy then you could ever see. That being said the movie was great it shows some of the stuff we do and go through on a daily basis.
I'm suprised alot of people dont realize that it all may be fake and acting and yes alot of the scenes I personally think they could have done better on some scenes but the realism is there. If you want to see a really fake movie that is nowhere close to what we go through try watching backdraft.
They can't make a real life movie about firefighters with real action because nobody would see it. In your face realism just doesn't sell not to mention the fact that most people would be sick if they see what really goes on.
You can't make people understand the bond between firefighters both paid and volunteer. Every firefighter is your brother and you trust each other with your life.
