Review of Ladder 49 (2004) by Raffy John M — 08 Jan 2013
"A bond forged by fire is never broken" it boasts on the front cover, although my interest and patience were and given another 10 mins my DVD player would have been. Where do I start to explain? Watching this you get the impression that this film feels sorry for itself, its all melancholy, dramatic music and characters who want to be heroes hesitating, as if they want to appear modest.
Phoenix looks completely bloated like he's been moonlighting on man v food and spends most of his time crying while Travolta is barely in it. Throw in some shitty flashbacks to pad out the story and then pack it with stomach churning pat on the back moments when people die or get saved.
A vomit stain of a film.
