Review of Lacombe, Lucien (1974) by Steve K — 26 Nov 2009
Most films--even those set in a time of war-- portray naivete and ignorance as cornerstones of youth's innocence. I believe we prefer to ignore the callousness and evil that also results (perhaps far more often, I daresay), and so the tragedy "Lacombe Lucien" will not appeal to the average viewer. But for those willing to confront reality, it is cinema at its best.
As a side note, I've never seen such pitiful reviews on Flixster: "Story has no interest"; "Bored to death;" this says more about the reviewers than this film.
