Review of Labyrinth (2011) by Kenneth B — 27 Feb 2014
Endlessly imaginative, the dreamy strangeness of "Labyrinth" is grounded by the remarkably capable Jennifer Connolly as Sarah (Just starting to bloom into one of the great actresses of her generation), and the majestic terror that is David Bowie's Goblin King. Provocative and sexy without being crass, powerful and frightening without being monstrous, Bowie's performance as Jareth is a joy to behold. "Dance Magic Dance" is one of the most sublime musical numbers in the history of film (And be sure to watch the DVD documentary that shows the immense dedication of cast and crew that made it possible). Layers of meaning are revealed with each additional viewing as I grow older.
A towering achievement by Jim Henson.
