Review of Labor Day (2013) by Liisa L — 09 Jun 2014
I try to only describe anything in the movie that's in the preview, so as not to give spoilers, but I had ONE complaint about not letting people know there are spoilers in my reviews. I really don't think so, but be wary anyway.
I was going to see this while it was in the theater, but it got past over for an Oscar nod, so I waited until it cam out on DVD. There were just too many movies to see that were nominated and I didn't have time to bother with the ones that weren't.
I am kind of a nerd and try to watch as many of the Oscar noms as I can before the Oscars. I wouldn't say I should have seen this in the theaters because, as I said I just didn't have time. I am glad that I did eventually see it.
If I had known how good it was, I would've seen it sooner. When I saw the preview for it, I remember my friend said, "I hope there is more to this movie than that". Well there really isn't.
It is just about Josh Brolin escaping from prison and holding Kate Winslett and her son hostage for Labor Day weekend and they all come to love each other. You would think it would be boring, but it wasn't boring at all.
It was actually pretty riveting. The acting and character development were flawless. Josh Brolin is just too good to be true. I don't care if he's a convict, I want to marry him. I thought time was a little askew though.
At one point, I thought it must be Monday now and it was only Friday. I thought, wow Josh Brolin did all that in like a day. He fixes their car and a bunch of other things. I love the relationship that grows not only with Winslett, but her son.
I really like how Brolin becomes kind of a father figure to him. I'm not really familiar with the actor, but he did a great job. There's also this sultry sexy under-tone to it. Wherever it takes place is hot because everyone is glistening.
This movie will stay with you. You will be thinking abut it days later. It's just a well written and well filmed script.
