Review of La Vie en Rose (2007) by Matthew R — 21 Aug 2010
La Vie en Rose is a tremendous portrayal of the life and times of Edith Piaf, the legendary French singer and performer. One can sit back and simply marvel at Marion Cotillard's performance. She completely and seamlessly embodies her, body and soul. Cotillard is just as believable as the young brash street performing Piaf as she is the sickly barely surviving Piaf who finally in the end is robbed of everything, her true love, her child, her voice and her adoring audience and their constant adulation. While I agree that the nonlinear chronology makes things confusing at times, the passionate emotion, from the extremes of bliss to despair, makes the movie more than worth seeing. Marion Cotillard's performance is nothing short of legendary, and is what propels this film.
