Review of La Vie en Rose (2007) by Matt C — 16 Jun 2010

Im not usually big on foriegn language films but I had to see this one after I heard what kind of performace Marion Cotilliard gave and her performance is one of the best ive ever seen. The transition she makes from herself into the character is perfect and she leaves Marion Cotilliard and becomes the legendary Edith Piaf which is not the easiest person to act like on film and she did it to perfection.

And the way she changes her apperance in almost every scene of the film really made me relaize how good this actress can be at the top of her game because she was on it in every scene in this film. But the scene that I loved from her the most was when she found out the love of her life died in a plane crash, that scene was strong and powerful and Cotolliard responded and convinced me perfectly.

Now other than one of the best performaces ive ever seen this film has some other things going for it like its great soundtrack. The music of Edith Piaf was amazing and went great with every scene. The photography was great as well and the set pieces of Paris were great as well to.

But this film without Marion Cotilliard could of been horrible and she made pretty much the whole film with no supporting characters even having a chance at being at her level. And this film is not for everybody it is strong and can move slow at times but Cotilliard is so good in this film that you just have to see it for yourself.

Good film with an amazing performace. 80%.
