Review of La Vie en Rose (2007) by Leighton T — 12 Feb 2011
A mammoth transformation and a magnanimous performance that shows the grace, beauty, addictions, and tribulations of France's most loved singer. Marion Cotillard absolutely props this film on her shoulders.
She fills the screen with an uncompromising, boisterous performance. The make-up is tremendously and adds quite an effect in making us believe it is Edith. The only real problem I had with it was the choppiness (still, after the second viewing) of the narrative.
Though unique, being a biography, there are some scenes which feel randomly inserted and don't really fit besides giving the magnetic Cotillard more screen time. It takes away from the film. Cudos to Colliard though.
One of the best performance by a woman this, or any other, year.
