Review of La Vie en Rose (2007) by Jiana W — 27 Jun 2011
I love the French language. That aside, Marion Cotillard completely dissolves into this role and it's mind-blowing. She was amazing in this and I want to see more of her movies. Any awards that she received were well-deserved.
The make-up in "La Vie en Rose" is phenomenal. I haven't seen make-up this great since "Benjamin Button". Cotillard plays Piaf from 19 to 47 when she dies and the movie did an excellent job showing her aging through the years. At first I thought it was different actresses until I got a closer look at her face thanks to the director's frequent close-up shots.
This lady had a rough, interesting life and came out of literally nothing. Truly a diamond in the rough story that, unfortunately, didn't have a particularly happy ending. But it's a great movie if you don't mind reading subtitles, and it succeeded in getting me to download two of Edith Piaf's songs for my iPod.
