Review of La Vie en Rose (2007) by Christian W — 18 Aug 2011
A haphazardly constructed film with an even more haphazard performance from the usually likable Marion Cotillard, who sincerely believes that Edith Piath was a goblin fully equipped with shrieking mannerisms and horrendous physicality.
No emotion ever pierces the mannered/controlled shell of Miss Cotillard's Edith, so we're left with a poorly edited biopic featuring an actress challenging Faye Dunaway's Joan Crawford for the most-inhumane-characterization-in-the-history-of-film-award.
Go figure.
