The high point of the first strain of neorealism which for me links the movement more closely with its origins-Von Stroheim and Greed. There is the unbroken chain of realist directors who learned from each other not only from viewing each other's movies, but from personal interaction.
..Von Stroheim, Renoir, and Visconti.
