Review of La Strada (1954) by Jose V — 04 Dec 2010
Master Fellini has done it again.
Plot: 5 out of 5; an evolution: while she is slowly dying from inside, he is slowly transforming into a truly human; her death is his final step to the real love and humanity.
Acting: 5 out of 5; another great couple in the history of movies; Masina is specially great, and Quinn makes the perfect "strong-man".
Direction: 5 out of 5; Fellini is a genious, his sole name should make us take our hats off.
Music: 5 out of 5; Again, the movie is relying on the sounds of daily life, but music is always present and always perfect.
Effects and Locations: 5 out of 5; when a movie does not have to rely on it's special effects, it usually has something to say; in this case, it is not said by words, but by views, actions and feelings.
Overall: 5/5.
Final Words: Every one of us has some of each one of the leading actors, and from the others too. We are the mother, that has to let a loved part of her life go to make a living, we are Quinn, pretending to be cruel and strong, but weak inside; and we are Gelsomina, the innocent and truly free part of us, trying to love and be loved, seemingly weak, but extremely strong inside.
This movie is life itself, magnificently showed and perfectly designed.
