One of Steve Martin's better comedies, this one is engaging because of its sense of character, great pacing and a goofy, whacky charm that pervades the material. It doesn't sink into silliness, as Martin's films often do, but actually tugs at the heart strings.
Entertaining, touching and quite funny.
