Review of L.A. Story (1991) by Sarfaraz A — 09 Sep 2012
Well liked by critics, but suffering the weight of the years which have passed since. This is a product of it's time a lot more than any of the Steve Martin films that preceeding during the 13 years prior.
It smells of the early 90's and not in a good way. There are far too many gags that fall flat and the only shining moments of the film are when Martin is roadside, interacting with the signpost (which are actually quite lovely).
Otherwise, it really is one of my least favourite films featuring my favourite comedic performer. On a side note, Sarah Jessica Parker puts in a very notable, bubbly performance which could weirdly be described as her best cinematic effort, ever.
