Review of La Notte (1961) by Aditya M — 11 Sep 2015
It can be a challenge to get through but it's rewarding when you finish it. (Hey, Stanley Kubrick named this among his Top 10 favourite movies, and so did Don Draper) I watched it in already unhappy mood, and the bleakness of the film drove me to despair.
Yet this has to be one of the most insightful films about relationships I've seen - there is subtlety and purpose to every scene. I think this line from Christopher Long's review puts it well: "Pay closest attention when the least seems to be happening, and you never know what you'll notice.
".
