Review of La La Land (2016) by Joseph L — 07 Mar 2017
In the end, La La Land falls flat for me. Obviously, I'm in the minority here with this film because many people love this film. I wanted to like this film but when I was over a half-hour into the film and I still had no idea of what was going on, I knew where this was going.
Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone are ok in this film but they are not given a lot to work with to help their characters grow. While the film tries to connect with us by reminding us to chase our dreams, it fails to realize what prevents us from chasing our dreams.
If you want to see the two have a romance together on-screen, go see Crazy, Stupid, Love instead. Their performances in that film are much more entertaining and easy to revisit.
