Review of La La Land (2016) by Nikos R — 02 Jan 2018
La La Land isn't just an immensely entertaining, uplifting, yet also poignant film, it ignited a flame inside me. Chazelle is a master behind the camera. Using many long single takes, smooth camera moves and birsk editing, he has created a stunningly beautiful film, that is both nostalgic and modern.
The music is truly wonderful, catchy and emotional. The movie's many musical numbers are amazingly choreographed and performed and they enhance the story instead of detracting from it. Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling act with finesse and palpable, real emotion, as Chazelle slowly brings us into their world and lets us in on their dreams.
Their chemistry is infectious and there is lot of attention put in the dialog between them, in order to create a believable relationship. This is a musical of uncommon depth, that delves into to deep emotional territory.
La La Land is a pure delight for anyone that loves music, movies, romance or dancing. Even more so, it's for everyone that was ever passionate about something and wanted to share and pursue that passion.
It speaks to anyone that's ever looked up at the stars and dreamed.
