Review of La La Land (2016) by Movie M — 05 Oct 2017
No matter who you are, "La La Land" hits pretty close to the home, and is a very interesting story told in a very original way. Obviously it has gotten all the praise it got for a reason - and I don't disagree with all the reviews, this movie has a lot to offer for all types of people.
There is obviously the romance between Sebastian (Ryan Gosling) and Mia (Emma Stone), and the chemistry between the two was extremely strong throughout the movie, so much so actually that it legitimately tore me to shreds by the end of the movie, and in no way whatsoever am I that emotional of a person, especially with movies.
But this one was something different, by the end, I felt for both of the characters, and the ending was done in a way that I'm not afraid to say brought me to actual tears. The musical part of this movie was also a huge plus, both Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling have pleasant vocals, and the jazz themed music was also really well done.
However, although there has been an insane amount of praise for this movie, there is a specific target audience, and I don't really think I fit into that target category. I did say that this movie is good no matter who you are, but if you're someone who isn't really into romantic musicals, then the first half of this movie might seem a little slow, which was a little bit the case for me.
By the end however, it really picked up, and like I said, sent me through a whirlwind of emotions, which again is pretty uncommon for me. In the end, "La La Land" deserves most of the praise that it gets, and if you are interested in the premise of this movie, then you will definitely enjoy it, however if it doesn't interest you and you just want to check it out because of the reviews, don't get your hopes up too high.
Nonetheless, "La La Land" is definitely worth watching.
