Review of La Haine (1995) by Jack G — 18 Jun 2008
For anyone who has seen and enjoyed films like Do The Right Thing or City of God this is a must see. It chronicles the day after a huge riot in the French Ghettos and shows the lives of three friends representing the Ghettos population; a Jew, and Arab and a North African.
The film is incredibly well shot with a similar style to the previous two films I mentioned (something I really like). Overall this film is a better portrayal of race relations, violence, friendship, and social illâ??s than City of God (which I love) and is a more stylistically charged film than Do the Right Thing (another favorite).
The ending was so powerful and well done that my jaw literally hung open in shock as the credits rolled. One of the 90's best films.
