Review of La Haine (1995) by Benjamin P — 29 Jul 2008
La Haine is a good movie that manages to save itself in the final 10 minutes. I had high expectations and was slightly disappointed for a good portion of this. The ending however is very powerful and makes the movie work.
This may be a strange combo, but think of this movie and a French "Boyz N the Hood" with a "Clerks" flair to it. The "Clerks" part comes from the Black & White film that works great for this film.
Also Clerks-esque is the large amount of dialogue with little actually happening. I also found it interesting that the 3 main characters used their real names in the film. An overall good movie if you have the patience for it's style.
