Review of La Haine (1995) by Rahul R — 29 Aug 2008
It's easy to compare this to films like "Do the Right Thing" or "City of God", but Kassivotz's film still stands up on its own as a nuanced, sophisticated exploration of race-relations in the French suburbs.
The real strength of the film is its acting; the three leads, especially Vinz, are superb, and transcend the reductionist stereotypes that could be applied to their characters. French hip hop never sounded cooler!
